Game Drives in the Bush

Take a step out of the known world of business, finance, corporations, sky scraping buildings, the rat race: in essence the infamous concrete jungle. Take a step into the unknown, the mysterious and beautiful world as nature intended it to be. Revel in the excitement of your vulnerability without a briefcase or computer at hand. Have an adventure into the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush, away from the regular routines of daily living to recharge and invigorate your soul.

Camps Bay is a fabulous venue from which to explore the myriad of exhilarating activities that Cape Town has to offer. Camps Bay is centrally located and yet away from the daily hustle and bustle of the Mother City and big business. Cape Town has something to suit everyone's palate, from museums rich in cultural history to adventurous sporting activities through to mouth watering dishes at the many hip and happening restaurants. And when the sun sets in Cape Town, the night opens up to the world with clubs pumping out music and humming jazz rooms as well as the many theatres presenting the latest shows.

An hour or two's drive outside the bright lights of the big city is another world entirely. The African bush chirps and roars at the outer edge of Cape Town where day trips or overnight stays are available to visitors wanting to immerse themselves in the fauna and flora of South Africa.

An excellent way to explore the marvels of the bush is to participate on a game drive in an open vehicle with a knowledgeable guide.

It is quite an amazing feat to see how an animal the size of a small truck can be camouflaged in the bush a few metres away from you! Spotting game in the African bush is certainly a skill and it is a skill that can easily be learnt. As a visitor you soon learn to look for game in the shadows under trees in the lazy afternoons, that movement generally indicates the presence of a bush dweller and whilst driving at night it is the shine of the eye that you scour the blackness for.

The circle of life in the bush is awesome to behold.

Each season in the bush has its own wonderful experiences to enjoy, from baby antelope in spring and summer and the gathering of animals around waterholes in the drier months of winter. Each day the African bush shares her marvels with the world.

Venture out into the buzz of the bush; come face to face with the Big Five - lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo and live a little on the wilder side of life.

Lekker Local Tips
* Driving about in an open vehicle can be quite chilly, especially if you are participating on a sunset or night game drive.
Ensure that you take warm clothes with you, such as a jacket, and that you wear long trousers.
Most game farms will provide blankets to keep their visitors warm whilst out in the bush at night, however a toasty wind-proof jacket and woollen cap sure keeps the breeze from finding the gaps!
* Take a pair of binoculars on your drive to spot game in the distance. Remember to take them on the night game drives as well, as they are really useful for better game viewing and the spotlights provide sufficient light in order to see clearly.
